We were sick last week. The kids were cranky, tired, and throwing up. I was sore, tired and feverish with strep. Parenting is at it’s most difficult when taking care of sick kids while being unwell yourself.
My heart was heavy as Rebekah’s birthday approached. I had been determined not to cry the whole week leading up to it as I had last year so I stayed strong, held it in, and weathered the whining and puking.
By Wednesday night I was completely exhausted and overwhelmed with sadness. 10 p.m. found me gently pushing aside two small boys who had taken over my bed and as I squeezed between them, the pain in my throat was not nearly as intense as the pain in my heart.
“Remember that your word says you will not try us above what we can handle” came my heart’s quiet prayer. “you promised to provide a way out”.
I was sure I had reached the point in which I could not handle any more. Have you ever been there? When your heart and body are so overwhelmed that you can barely pray?
Answered Prayer
A text message came through at 4 a.m. “God woke me up to pray for you” it went on with an encouraging message.
Thursday continued with encouragement coming from unexpected places.
Friday morning we made pancakes into shapes just like Rebekah used to. We planted flower seeds, painted pictures for our elderly neighbors, baked a chocolate cake, and ate Rebekah’s favorite supper.
At every turn love, encouragement, and support poured from the incredible people God has put into our lives. We were being carried.
My one simple prayer from an exhausted broken heart was answered with an outpouring of love.
God does not promise to keep us from the pain and suffering in this world, but He does promise to walk with us.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you. Isaiah 43:2
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me. Psalm 23:4
Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Thank you to all of you who loved, encouraged, and prayed for us. You were an answer to prayer!!
God hears us even when we can’t find the words to say. When the struggle is near, He is there. He is the One we draw our strength from when we don’t have any left. He is our Provider and knows what we need and when we need it. Thanks for posting Heather. – Daniel
Yes! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I just loved this! And I love how God sometimes works in small ways, putting people in our path to remind us of His presence!
How good is our God?!
I love how God hears our weakest prayers and answers with more strength than we could every muster up. He provides like a father knowing just what we need when we need it! Glad you’re all on the mend, but I’m sure you’re grateful to have seen his hand at work.
Heather, I feel your pain. I am so glad you were comforted and buffeted by the support of friends around you. I pray the love and comfort of the Lord will continue to strengthen you. Thank you for your honesty in sharing your pain. Bless you.
Thank you! Hugs!
