Have you ever heard the expression attitude of gratitude? While we should be thanking God every day of the year, there is no denying it that Thanksgiving reminds us of what we have and gives us a reality check. These attitude of gratitude quotes are good for November and every day of the year as we ask God to make our hearts truly thankful.
I enjoy words. I like to talk and read and write LOL but I am neither witty nor eloquent. I scanned the internet world and came up with some great quotes on thanksgiving and gratitude for all of you likeminded “wordy” people, but first, let’s discuss the meaning behind the attitude of gratitude!
What is the Attitude of Gratitude?
It is easy to get caught up in negative thoughts, isn’t it? Before you realize it, your thoughts have turned from happy to grumbling to down right feeling sorry for yourself.
Sometimes we become envious or jealous. Other times we find ourselves wishing our lives were different. I am guilty of comparing my life to others and somehow I always come up wanting.
The attitude of gratitude keeps our minds focused on God and the good things He is doing for us. Even when we cannot see them or understand His ways, He is moving.
At the very least, our attitude should reflect that we are loved by Him.
Funny Thanksgiving Wishes
Since we are feeling light-hearted, let’s start our quotes on thanksgiving and gratitude with funny Thanksgiving wishes. I laughed the whole time I was choosing these!
“May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!”
“Coexistence: What the farmer does with the turkey—until Thanksgiving.” Mike Connolly
I guess this isn’t exactly a funny Thanksgiving wish, but “Pie makes everybody happy” is so me! I love pie, but I do not know how to make one myself (unless I buy a premade crust). My sister makes amazing apple pie!
“I suppose I will die never knowing what pumpkin pie tastes like when you have room for it.” Robert Brault
“Thanksgiving: Bringing out the best in family dysfunction since 1863.” -unknown
Gratitude and Thanksgiving Quotes
Since the attitude of gratitude goes hand in hand with Thanksgiving, let’s look at some gratitude and Thanksgiving quotes.
“If a fellow isn’t thankful for what he’s got, he isn’t likely to be thankful for what he’s going to get.” -Frank A Clark
This one makes me smile because how true is it?! My son asked me the other day what “the grass is greener on the other side” means. It is an important concept to discuss with our kids, isn’t it?
Even more that teaching them to be thankful and appreciate what they have is showing them how to have an attitude of gratitude by example.
“Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our Thanksgiving.” W.T. Purkiser
“Thanksgiving after all is a word of action.” -W.J. Cameron
“The thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest” -William Blake
Yes! Have you ever heard stories of people who feel blessed even when they have very little? They are learned this lesson. They are thankful for every good that comes their way no matter how small and therefore live with an attitude of gratitude!
What does the Bible say about the Attitude of Gatitude? Thanksgiving Quotes from the Bible
The Bible is full of thanksgiving to God! He is our God and Creator and we can rejoice that He always loves us and is here with us.
The attitude of gratitude quotes from scripture becomes more real to us when we focus on God’s word and who He is and take our eyes off of ourselves and our situations.
“Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad;
And let them say among the nations, “The Lord reigns.”
Let the sea roar, and all its fullness;
Let the field rejoice, and all that is in it.
Then the trees of the woods shall rejoice before the Lord,
For He is coming to judge the earth.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.” (1 Chronicles 16:31-34)
“Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.”
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.” (Psalm 100:1-5 NKJV)
“Both riches and honor come from You,
And You reign over all.
In Your hand is power and might;
In Your hand it is to make great
And to give strength to all.”
“Now therefore, our God,
We thank You
And praise Your glorious name.” (1 Chronicles 29:12-13)

Thankful for Family and Friends Quotes
Our last set of quotes about thanksgiving and gratitude is about family and friends.
Being alone is one of the hardest seasons of life. God is good to bring us into friendship with one another. We all need companions, someone to walk this journey with us.
I believe that God places people in our lives exactly when we need them. Sometimes those people are meant to walk with us for a short time, others are meant to walk with us until the day God calls us home.
Here are some thankful for family and friends quotes to warm your heart and encourage you to hug the people in your life that journey beside you.
“It’s not where you are in life, it’s who you have by your side that matters.” – Unknown
“Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.” -Marcel Proust
“Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest; it’s about who came and never left your side.” -Yolanda Hadid
“Family is a unique gift that needs to be appreciated and treasured, even when they’re driving you crazy. As much as they make you mad, interrupt you, annoy you, curse at you, try to control you, these are the people who know you the best and who love you.” -Jenna Morasca
“The only rock I know that stays steady, the only institution I know that works is the family.” -Lee Lacocca
