Today’s five minute friday prompt is “promise”.
I love the word promise. I know it sounds strange to love a word, but I have always felt a positive association with it. Perhaps promises made to me have not been broken enough to have scarred me, or perhaps I have had a stressful week and simply need to be reminded of something good.
“I promise to love, honor, and cherish…” the public vows I made to my best friend 13 years ago. More about how that promise came to pass.
“I promise to always be here for you…” as I gently kissed the wrinkled forehead of my newborn.
In an insecure world we cling to promises. We are searching for things to ground us, keep us safe, and give us hope. It can be a rough ride. Disease robs us of our health, insecurities ruin relationships, and accidents steal our children.
“I will never leave you nor forsake you” the precious promise I read in God’s word.
The promises in God’s word are timeless. Unlike the promises made by imperfect humans, there is no danger in them. They remain whether we obey or fail.
“The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”
God loves us with an everlasting love. To me that sounds as if He is promising to always love us. Forever. More promises of that incredible love.
So, dear friends, I challenge you today to seek out the promises in God’s word and embrace them because they are yours and they are forever!
Yes, indeed, God’s promises are very different to promises made by imperfect people! Thanks for the reminder.
Right?!
I am humbled, inspired, comforted, strengthened and encouraged by all the promises that God’s word contains. And each promise as sure and dependable as the savior that made them. What a mighty God we serve!
Well said!!
God’s promises are amazing, and knowing that they can always be trusted gives so much reassurance!
AMEN!
