18 Bible Verses About Spring to Prepare Your Heart for the Season

As an avid gardener, I embrace seasons with spring and summer being my favorite because that is when I can spend my time in the spaces that make me happy. With this enthusiasm, I have sought out Bible verses about spring looking for a way to add even more of a spiritual element.

The cycles of the earth often represent the seasons of our lives. They may represent what is going on physically or emotionally or even spiritually. Let me explain.

Since we are focusing on Bible verses about spring, let’s begin there. Spring is when everything begins to awaken after the dormancy of winter. There is a feeling of newness, hope, youth, and growth.

Physically this is a time when we are preparing garden soil, nurturing young plants, and planning for the summer ahead. Our children find spring pulsing through their veins and they are anxious to be outside splashing in puddles and racing on their bikes.

Emotionally, spring can represent a break through. A freeing of depression or the courage to live again after a period of mourning.

Spiritually, spring represents the newness of life; the freedom from the darkness of sin, and joy of learning to walk in the spirit. Spring represents deliverance from what was binding you and welcomes you into the joy of the Lord.

Ok, are you ready to study what the Bible says about spring? Grab a cup of your favorite hot drink, and if you are a paper girl like me, a notebook and pen, and let’s get started.

Bible Verses About Spring

We are going to begin our spring Bible verses with my favorite one. The visual is lovely and it is from the already romantic book of Song of Solomon. I feel as if God is calling me away to my gardens to grow and rest in Him when I read this.

I hope that you find that same calling in your heart from your Beloved.

Song of Solomon 2:10-13

My beloved spoke, and said to me:
“Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come,
And the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.
The fig tree puts forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grapes give a good smell.
Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away!

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:

A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted;

While these are the verses that mention spring or rather planting in the spring, I do want to include the rest of the verses here. Solomon really was wise to list them all because I think we find comfort in knowing that we are not meant to live forever in one season.

I remember coming to an understanding with this when I lost my beautiful 8 year old daughter. I was in such a season of grief with nothing to look forward to that I found comfort in knowing that it was ok to be in this season. There was no reason to rush through it because God provided seasons for us.

A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain, and a time to lose;
A time to keep, and a time to throw away;
A time to tear, and a time to sew;
A time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
A time of war, and a time of peace. (verses 3-8)

James 5:7-8

Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

A note on early and latter rain. Spring is a tricky thing to talk about because reasons are subject to the various climates. For us in the northern midwest of the United States, we experience dramatic changes in temperature throughout the seasons.

Winter, spring, summer, and fall are defined by changes in temperature, daylight etc.

The climate in Israel is that of dry hot summers and mild rainy winters. The early rains or the first fall rains are important for making the ground ready for plowing and planting. The latter rains or last rains that occur in spring are important for ripening the crops before the summer.

Joel 2:23

Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God;
For He has given you the former rain faithfully,
And He will cause the rain to come down for you—
The former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

Isaiah 61:11

For as the earth brings forth its bud,
As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,
So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Bible Verses About God Blessing Spring

It was God’s plan to put seasons on the earth. What exactly that looked like in the perfect Garden of Eden is unknown to us. The Bible is also very clear that God is in control of those seasons.

When dealing with Israel God promises to bring rain and make their land prosperous when they follow and obey Him.

Genesis 1:14

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;

Genesis 8:22

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest,
Cold and heat, winter and summer,
And day and night shall not cease.”

Daniel 2:20-22

“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, for wisdom and might are His.
And He changes the times and the seasons;
He removes kings and raises up kings;
He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.
He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness,
And light dwells with Him.

Zechariah 10:1

Ask the Lord for rain in the time of the latter rain.
The Lord will make flashing clouds; He will give them showers of rain,
Grass in the field for everyone.

Jeremiah 5:24

They do not say in their heart,
“Let us now fear the Lord our God,
Who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season.
He reserves for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.”

Deuteronomy 11:13-15

And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the Lord your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil. And I will send grass in your fields for your livestock, that you may eat and be filled.’

Deuteronomy 28:1-4

Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God:

 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks.

Bible Verses About Spring, Spiritually Speaking

These verses don’t necessarily say spring, but they are about new beginnings and being dead to sin while embracing the work of our Lord Jesus Christ. Spiritual spring is like new birth whether you are a brand new believer or coming into a closer relationship with God.

Hosea 6:3

Let us know, let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.
His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain,
Like the latter and former rain to the earth.

Psalm 1:1-3

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Revelation 21:5

Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.”

2 Corinthians 5:17

 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Romans 6:1-4

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?  Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?

 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Ephesians 2:4-6

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
